The Science of Breaking
the Fungal Cycle
Athlete's foot, toenail fungus and the fungus you pick up at the gym or the salon all share the same frustrating pattern: you treat it, it fades, and then it comes back. People blame the fungus for being "tough." Usually the real problem is simpler and more fixable. Most over-the-counter antifungals use a proven active, but they fail at the two things that actually decide whether you get better: getting the active to the fungus, and keeping it there long enough to win.
Dr. AntiFungus was built by podiatrists who watched this happen in their own practices. We engineered our formulas to solve both problems at once.
Hero Ingredient: Tolnaftate
LEARN MOREYour skin absorbs water, not oil.
Yet almost every tolnaftate product on the shelf is oil-based, so much of the active never gets past the surface.
We use a water-soluble system that moves the active into the skin where the fungus lives. This is the heart of why we're different: full explanation on the next page.
Three steps you'll keep up
Same Active. A Smarter Delivery.
Here's the part nobody tells you in the foot-care aisle: most antifungal products are fighting over the same active ingredient. Tolnaftate has been a trusted, FDA-recognized over-the-counter antifungal for decades. The $9 bottle has it. The premium tube has it. We have it too. So if the active is the same, why do results vary so much?
Because an antifungal can only work where it actually lands. The fungus that causes athlete's foot lives in and just beneath the surface layers of your skin. If the active never gets there if it sits on top and wipes off on your sock it doesn't matter how good the molecule is. Most products lose the fight at delivery, not at the active.
Skin is hydrophilic “water-loving.” The outer layer, the stratum corneum, readily takes up and holds water; that's why your fingertips wrinkle in the bath and why a damp compress softens skin. Oil behaves the opposite way. Put an oil-based product on skin and it tends to bead, smear and sit on the surface the same reason oil and water don't mix in a glass.
Now look at what's actually on the shelf. The vast majority of tolnaftate products are formulated in oil or oily bases. So the active is suspended in exactly the kind of vehicle your skin is least ready to absorb. A lot of that expensive active spends its life on the surface and then on your sock not in the skin where it's needed.
Dr. AntiFungus formulas are water-soluble. The active is carried in a water-based system that wets the skin and works with its natural affinity for water, so it penetrates the surface instead of beading on top. Our soak takes it even further: dissolved completely in warm water, the active surrounds every surface between the toes, around the nail folds, the soles and absorbs as the skin takes up the water it's already built to absorb. Same proven active. A delivery system designed for how skin actually works.
